Psalm

rough translation from Tudor Arghezi

I seek you in my sound and in my silence
I hunt you breathlessly each day
To see: are you my long sought eagle?
To kill you? Or to kneel and pray?

For faith or for denial
I seek you ceaselessly to no avail
Of all my dreams you are the brightest one
And I can't bring myself to strike you down,
my holy grail.

Like the reflections of a heated road
You sometimes are
and sometimes not
Your presence and your absence just as real
Like an elusive meaning in a plot.

And in the end alone
your great narrative
Left me behind to face you,
brave and teal
And I don't want to be the one to win
But just to touch and shout:
Indeed, you're real!
